Patea is a small town on the North Island’s West coast, in the region of South Taranaki. With a population of approximately 1,300, it presents a strong community focus. In South Taranaki, summer temperatures average 19 -24 degrees Celsius. Winters are also mild, ranging between 13 - 14 degrees Celsius. The region's annual rainfall provides enough moisture to ensure exceptionally vibrant flora and fauna.
The town contains a Catholic primary school and an area school, covering both primary and secondary education. You will also find the South Taranaki District Museum, public swimming pool, river walk, and nearby Carlyle Beach and Mana Bay, offering excellent fishing, boating and surfing. To the North lies Mount Taranaki, with its awe-inspiring snow capped peak. There you will discover Egmont National Park and the stunning Dawson Falls. For shopping, the larger towns of Hawera and Wanganui are short drive from Patea. New Plymouth city can also be reached in just over an hour.
This practice offers a negotiable numeration package for the right full-time GP. There is no on-call and you will be supported by one other GP, five nurses and administration staff. The local hospital is based in Hawera, and provides 24 hour emergency services. New Plymouth is home to the nearest base hospital.
