It's time to make the move to the 'Winterless North'...
This rural practice is looking for an enthusiastic general practitioner to the join their team from June/July 2012. A generous salary package is available, including use of vehicle for work use and possible accommodation for the duration of the placement. The practice has vocationally registered practitioners who will provide ongoing support.
Hokianga is a three-hour drive north of Auckland, New Zealand’s largest city, and comprises small rural settlements mostly situated by an extensive harbour. The harbour runs 50 kilometres inland and most Maori trace their ancestry to the discovery and settlement of this harbour. It includes some of the country’s earliest European settlements. The largest centre is Opononi, with a population of around 700. The population is generally young, with young families predominating.
Rawene, population around 300, is the centre of the district and New Zealand’s third oldest European settlement. It has more shops and facilities, (including cafĂ© and art galleries) than any other township in Hokianga and is the site of hospital and medical practice. Rawene has a golf course, a bowling club, and swimming, boating, fishing, walking and hunting are activities that can be enjoyed locally. Catholic and Anglican/Methodist churches are represented and the town has a primary school. The regional high school, Northland College, is located at Kaikohe, and there is an area school at Opononi.
Hokianga offers a quality of life different to that of the city. The climate is sub-tropical (known as the “Winterless North"), the environment beautiful, with numerous beaches and small bays and many forest tracks and coastal walks, and there is a spirit of “one people” in Maori-Pakeha relationships.
