A beautiful and popular island with forest ranges, white beaches and flourishing plant and bird life. Where there are no traffic lights and drivers acknowledge one another. Auckland city is just a three hour ferry ride or thirty minute flight away and this island needs you!
This health centre is based in a modernised building located in the centre of the island. There are no evening or weekend clinics but the 1:2 on-call general practitioner is available outside clinic hours and throughout the weekend. The team consists of two general practitioners, four rural nurses and one administrator, and cares for 997 resident patients. However, during the summer this figure can greatly increase. Throughout the year there are, on average, 15 patients attending 15 – 20 minute appointments each day.
This is a small, supportive and cohesive unit caring holistically for the community. Their care spans from cradle to grave and is enormously professionally satisfying. The practice is well equipped having X-ray, laboratory and minor surgery services available on-site. The base and local hospital is Auckland City Hospital, 90kms and a 35 minute helicopter ride from the island. Emergency services on the island are the responsibility of the health team, along with a St John’s Ambulance service.
Core hours are three days per week (6 sessions). The practice will provide you with a house and car for a year and the successful candidate must be prepared to work regular on-call.
