Whangamata Medical CentreWhangamata Medical Centre is conveniently located in the town centre of this rural/coastal holiday resort. This privately owned and purpose-built group practice requires a General Practitioner/Family Practitioner as soon as possible to join their practice in Whangamata.

The four General Practitioners are supported by five practice nurses, a practice manager and 6 receptionists. The computerised patient management system used is Medtech 32 and the practice is affiliated with the Waikato PHO andholds a PRIME contract, receiving reasonable roster funding.

The practice has 5000 patients, with on average 120 to 150 patients attending 15 minute appointments each day, with patients being mainly pakeha and elderly. Surgery hours are 8.30am to 5.30 pm Monday to Friday and 9.00am to 12.30pm on Saturday. They provide their own 24/7 cover on a 1:3 basis. Distance to their on call boundary is 20km – approximately 30 minutes. During the summer, they provide extended hours due to the temporary expanse in population and are open 7 days per week.

Whangamata has a population of 5,000 swelling dramatically to 60,000 during the holiday periods.

The local hospital is Thames, taking around an hour to reach the practice; this is a secondary level care facility by generalist specialists and visiting specialists from Waikato – MOSS in A&E and on wards. The closest base hospital is at Waikato, approximately two hours’ drive away. This is one of New Zealand’s largest hospitals, with 650 beds and a diverse range of services. Waikato Hospital is also a tertiary teaching hospital.

X-Ray and Medlab laboratory services are available right across the road from the practice. Also several additional health professionals including a district nurse, physio, and mental health work from the practice. Orthopaedic and urology specialists visit the practice when necessary.

Whangamata Medical Centre is seeking an experienced full-time General Practitioner with a view, remuneration package negotiable to start ASAP.
