Whangamata is famous for its unique combination of beach and forest. The spectacular ocean beach provides some of the best surfing breaks, and yet safest swimming in New Zealand. Sea conditions suitable for all are available along its four kilometre length or in the safe harbours that lie to the north and south.
There never needs to be a dull moment in Whangamata. Being that it’s situated in on the edge of the coast, there is much to do and see, such things are; surfing, Fishing, Diving, Cruising, Game Fishing, Rock Fishing, Kayaking, Bush Walks, Exploring, Adventure Tours, Mountain Biking, Tramping, Golfing and much, much more!
Pre-school facilities including kindergarden and playschool area school are available within the town. There are churches, libraries, banks, petrol services, swimming pools, sports and cultural clubs to name a few. There is one golf course located close to the city centre.
Whangamata has the best weather in the country, with temperatures ranging from 24 to 31 °C in the summer and on average 12 to 14 °C in the middle of the winter months.
