Positions have arisen for two General Practitioners to join our experienced, fun loving ‘Pihanga Health’ team in Turangi.
Pihanga Health is an innovative, fully computerized (Medtech 32) practice which has been set up to provide a working environment where Doctors and Nurses can enjoy the job satisfaction and enjoyment of rural General Practice without the usual disadvantages.
Doctors are employed on an excellent salary package with all practice administration provided by a management team. There is no after hours on call to contend with, weekends only requiring one Saturday morning clinic every three weeks.
This would certainly suit GP’s who want to live in their own part of Paradise and actually have quality time to enjoy it.
If the idea of practising satisfying medicine in a progressive rural/tourist area, while actually having time to enjoy all the recreational pursuits the Central North Island is renowned for, appeals to you, then read on:
Pihanga Health is located in Turangi, the southern end of Lake Taupo, in the North Island. It is privately owned by One Health Ltd, which is comprised of board and shareholders from the wider community, with an interest in primary health care. Pihanga Health is affiliated to the Lakes Taupo Primary Health Organisation (PHO), receiving patient subsidies available for PHO-affiliates.
Pihanga Health achieved Accreditation in September 2006 and the General Practitioners are supported by a very experienced and patient orientated team, consisting of a Practice Manager, three practice nurses and three receptionists. The nurses triage the patients before they are seen by the General Practitioner - patient history and preliminaries are entered into the patient management system prior to the GP seeing the patient.
The practice has approx. 2500 registered patients, and growing, with an average of 25 - 27 patients seen per General Practitioner each day. Surgery hours are 8.30 am to 5.00 pm, with a Saturday morning clinic (9.00am – 11.00am) for urgent cases only, on a one in three roster. Taupo General Practitioners and the Taupo Hospitalcover for the rest of the weekend. Therefore there is no on-call on weekends or during the week.
The on-call is dealt with by a triage nurse through Auckland, who then contacts the Taupo General Practitioner on call with the details, if the patient requires a doctor’s assistance. Ambulance services, including a paramedic, are available locally.
The local hospital is 28-bed Taupo Hospital, 50 kilometres from the practice, and the closest base hospital is 178-bed Rotorua Hospital, 135 kilometres or approximately 90 minutes drive away. These hospitals provide inpatient, outpatient and daypatient services and are governed by the Lakes District Health Board.
In March 2008 we will be moving into a brand new Health Centre, with plenty of room to expand our services. This Centre will also accommodate other health professionals, therefore creating a better environment for both Doctors and patients.
Pihanga Health is currently seeking 2 permanent General Practitioners to join their friendly and committed team; one position covering 4 days per week, and the other 3 days per week. This would certainly suit GP’s who want to live in a bit of Paradise and actually have quality time to enjoy it.
As the practice is in a rural environment, the position would be best suited to someone with experience in emergency medicine, or would be prepared to undergo training.
Both positions would attract the following package:
4 weeks holiday per year + most Statutory Holidays off
10 days sick leave
5 days study leave
Practicing Certificate paid by One Health Ltd
Medical Protection Insurance paid by One Health Ltd
Relocation package negotiable for permanent candidates.
This package is open to negotiation.
