About West Otago Health Limited

West Otago Health Limited is situated in a building, which was previously the New Zealand Government Forestry Building Head Quarters and is located at the end of the retail centre.  It comprises three consulting rooms and one emergency room.

The only General Practitioner is supported by five Registered Nurses who are all PRIME trained, a casual enrolled nurse, a Practice Manager, a Practice Administrator and a Receptionist.  The computerised patient management system is MedTech.

West Otago Health Ltd is open from 8.30am to 5.30pm weekdays, with the exception of Thursdays where the practice is open from 8.30am to 8.00pm.  The General Practitioner will have clinic from 1.00pm – 8.00pm on Thursdays. The practice has 2100 registered patients with the GP seeing, on average 22 patients in 15 minute appointments each day.  Weekday on call is 1:5 with no weekend call required.

The practice has all necessary medical equipment and facilities for a rural practice, some of these include; minor surgery facilities, an ECG Machine, Defibrillator and full Crash Trolley. X-ray and Physiotherapy facilities are available at Gore Hospital.  The practice is an agency for Southern Community Laboratory.

There are two local hospitals close by, Gore Hospital (30kms away) and Balclutha Hospital (50kms away).  The closest base hospital is Dunedin Hospital, roughly 180kms away from the practice, taking one hour and fifty minutes by car.  There is a volunteer St John’s ambulance service available at the hospital, which takes roughly fifteen minutes to reach the practice.

West Otago Health Limited is seeking a full-time General Practitioner to work weekdays from 8.30am to 5.30pm.  Relocation assistance will be provided as well as registration and medical indemnity insurance. A competitive salary is offered along with these benefits.
