Otaihape Health Ltd is an exciting new health service provider based in Taihape. It is within the region of Wanganui District Health Board (WDHB) and is a member of the Whanganui Regional Primary Health Organisation (WRPHO).
The Practice commenced operations in September 2007 with the merger of three local health service providers. It is the operating company of Otaihape Health Trust, a community trust that was established as the governing body.
Planning and development for this new service was undertaken over a two year period with full participation by the 3 services - GP and Rest Home services (both community trusts) and WDHB Hospital and Community services. There was also strong support from the Taihape community and WRPHO.Although Otaihape Health Ltdoperates out of 2 facilities on the same campus, there is a good team spirit by all staff within the organization. The Practice is currently undertaking a $2.5million redevelopment programme of its facilities, resulting in an excellent working environment for all services.
The ‘purpose built’ GP facility is now completed and houses the GP, Xray, multidisciplinary community services and visiting specialist clinics. The Hospital and Home facility is nearing completion and houses the hospital, maternity and residential services. Otaihape Health Ltd practiceprovides primary health care services for 3,799 enrolled patients, and also attends to approximately 3,000 casuals and visitors annually. Practice nurses support the GP’s as well as managing their own nurse led clinics. The surgery hours are 8.30am – 5.30pm with appointments being 15 minutes long and the on call ratio is 1:3.
The team of three GPs are employed by Otaihape Health Ltd and are responsible for the medical care for people residing within the Taihape community and its surrounding districts, and for casual visitors. The GPs are supported by a General Manager, Registered Nurses, Health Care Workers, Allied services and Administrative Staff. The closest GP services are south at Marton and north at Waiouru they are both approximately 45 minutes drive from Taihape. The closest Major Hospitals are Wanganui and Palmerston North hospitals, which are 75 minutes, drive south over state highway roads. Wanganui is the base hospital for Taihape. The Practice has great services from Health Providers some of them being a Community Mental Health Team, Mobile Surgical Services, Laboratory services, Iwi Health Services, voluntary ambulance service and varied visiting specialists.
The Otaihape Health Ltd (OHL) is looking for a General Practitioner to work in its newly amalgamated health services. The Practice would consider this position being on a short term or long term basis, with the option of a full time, part time or job share contract. Fully furnished accommodation and a car will be available free of charge for 4 weeks after which market rental and lease will apply. Relocation expenses will be reimbursed by negotiation.
