Raukawa Iwi Medical Services is run as part of an Iwi (Maori group) organisation, which gives it a very interesting demographic of around 70% Maori, the Pakeha who live in the area are also closely linked to the Maori culture.
Located on the main street between Levin and Palmerston North, and roughly 15kms from Foxton, Waitarere Beach and the Mangaore area, the practice is situated in an old post office which was refurbished in 2006. The practice has three clinic rooms. They are also well resourced, with a stethoscope, scales, opthal moscopes, otoscopes, eye charts, thermometers, equipment for minor surgery, phlebotomy equipment and more.
The practice operates with one FTE General Practitioner who is supported by two Practice Nurses, two Receptionists and one Practice Manager. In addition, a paediatrician visits the practice every two months for appointments. The community has always been very supportive and as an organization there are ancillary health workers such as Community Nurse, Practice Nurse and Whanau Tamariki Ora (Family/Children) Nurse who all have close linkages with the Practice and the community.
Office hours are 8.00am to 5.00pm weekdays with surgery hours being from 9.00am to 12.00pm and 1.00pm to 4.30pm. It has 1200 patients, with 20 seen by each General Practitioner on average per day in 15 minute appointments. The weekly on-call ratio is 1:5; there is no weekend on-call. The practice uses the Medtech 32 computerised patient management system.
The closest base and local hospital is Midcentral Palmerston North, it is 38 kilometres, approximately a 35 to 40 minute drive away from the practice. It is a regional teaching hospital with an emergency department and a full range of specialists available.
Raukawa Iwi Medical Services is looking for an experienced General Practitioner to join their practice on a permanent basis. A good salary package is offered for the GP, working 8/10ths a week. Vehicle assistance is provided as well as full provision. Accommodation and relocation assistance are negotiable.
