Ruakaka and Waipu Medical Centre, is split between two separate surgeries, one surgery is located in the heart of the retail centre in Waipu, the other located in the heart of the retail centre in Ruakaka. Both surgeries are situated in purpose built buildings and approximately a five minute drive away from each other.
This two doctor practice has a friendly team serving an appreciative community with good support from two Rural Nurses, one Practice Manager and four Receptionists between the two practices. The computerised patient management system used is Medtech. The practice is affiliated to the local PHO. Both surgeries have excellent facilities such as ECG oxygen nebuliser, accident primary equipment and minor surgery facilities.
These practices have approximately 2,000 registered patients, most of which are made up of European, Maori and Korean. Both practices are open from 8:30am – 12.00pm and 2.00pm to 5.00pm weekdays and one in four weekend clinics are open from 9.00am – 12.00pm. Appointments are around 15 minutes long with about 20 patients seen daily. The on call roster is currently 1:4 on the weekends.
There is a Physiotherapist available for appointments in Ruakaka, not far from the surgeries as well as Mental Health Services in the area.
X-rays and laboratory services are both provided through the Whangarei Hospital, which is located roughly 40 kms away from Ruakaka (30 minutes) and 46 kms away from Waipu (40 minutes). This is a 700 bed hospital with most specialists available. It provides a full range of secondary services as well as being the base for extensive community based services. It takes approximately five minutes for an ambulance to reach the practice.
Ruakaka and Waipu Medical Centre is seeking an experienced GP to work two and a half days a week (four and half sessions) initially, with a view to starting on a full-time, permanent basis. No weekend work will be necessary initially. An attractive package will be offered, all aspects of which are negotiable.
