Te Korowai Hauora O Hauraki - Paeroa

Return to Paeroa

Te Korowai Hauora O Hauraki, an incorporated society, is a Maori health provider with a progressive holistic population health philosophy, characterised by early intervention programmes and wellness support services. Based in Thames, Te Korowai has seven bases extending throughout the communities of Thames-Coromandel and Hauraki. This enables a high degree of support and opportunity for its General Practitioners, who are employed on salary.

Te Korowai Hauora O Hauraki established a health centre in Paeroa four years ago and wishes to appoint a General Practitioner to replace two part time GPs who have been sharing responsibilities there. The appointee will work closely with, and be supported by, General Practitioners from Te Korowai’s practices in Thames and Te Aroha. A practice nurse and receptionist will provide further on-site support, and a community health worker and two counsellors are also available.

The practice is situated in the heart of the town centre. Side-by-side offices purchased by Te Korowai Hauora O Hauraki have been redeveloped for purpose. The practice is affiliated to the Hauraki Primary Health Organisation (PHO), receiving patient subsidies available for PHO-affiliates. It is fully computerised and uses the MedTech 32 patient management system. It is a well-equipped practice, with ECG, pulse oximeter and spirometer.

The practice has 1200 patients, many with high needs. Surgery hours are 9.00 am to 5.00 pm daily, and on call 1:5. After hours call are first taken by a telephone nurse triage service so after hours call outs are rare and time off in lieu is given to account for time on call.

Patients in Paeroa requiring hospital services are normally referred to Thames Hospital, 28 kilometres away, a 52-bed general hospital incorporating A&E, surgical and obstetrics. Patients requiring more specialised services are referred to Waikato Hospital, a tertiary teaching hospital, approximately 45 minutes drive away. This is one of New Zealand’s largest hospitals, with 650 beds and a diverse range of services. Thames and Waikato hospitals are entering an exciting phase, with government funding approved for major redevelopment work.

Te Korowai Hauora O Hauraki, Paeroa is seeking to engage a culturally aware General Practitioner for up to 10 sessions (negotiable) for its Paeroa practice on a negotiable salary package, which could include study support. Any part time arrangement would be considered. Additional assistance is negotiable by way of relocation and accommodation allowances, and the provision of housing, vehicle and medical registration. A flexible, supportive approach will be taken to all discussions with candidates.
