Paeroa Medical Centre is an established rural RNZCGP accredited Teaching Practice located within easy accessof Paeroa shopping area. The Practice is privately owned and in a purpose built building. There are six consulting rooms and a large treatment area.
The Practice has modern and quality equipment with minor surgery services available on site. Also available in the same building are laboratory services, Physiotherapy, Dentist, District and Mental Health Nurse and visiting specialists. X–ray and laboratory services are is available in Waihi, Thames, Hamilton. The Practice provides services to Ohinemuri Home and Hospital, a 60 bed geriatric home, and cover the volunteer ambulance service (PRIME).
The Practice currently employs three General Practitioners, four nurses, six receptionists who job share and a practice manager. The practice runs clinics from 8.30pm – 5.00pm and the office hours are 8.00am – 5.00pm. The practice has 5,900 registered patients, with each GP seeing on average 33 patients per day attending 15-minute appointments.
The practice shares the on call roster (1:5) with other health providers in the area and is 1:8 at the weekend. Paeroa Medical Centre is affiliated to the Waikato Primary Health Organisation (PHO), receiving capitated patient subsidies for non-accident care, and is computerised; using the Medtech 32 computerised patient management system.
Patients in Paeroa requiring hospital services are normally referred to Thames Hospital, 32 kilometres away, a 52-bed general hospital incorporating A&E, surgical and medical services. Patients requiring more specialised services are referred to the closest base hospital, Waikato Hospital, a tertiary teaching hospital, which is just 74 kilometers away, taking roughly an hour to reach from the practice. This is one of New Zealand’s largest hospitals and is also the largest Base Hospital in the Southern Hemisphere, with 650 beds and a diverse range of services. Affiliated to the University of Auckland’s Medical and Health Sciences, it offers 50 medical placements, as well as training in pharmacy, health management and post-graduate studies. Ambulance services are available to the practice; this takes roughly five minutes to reach the practice.
A General Practitioner for up to nine sessions per week, to join their dedicated team as a long term locum with the view to join permanently. Payment will be per session on a percentage basis and is negotiable, as is relocation assistance. The Practices Doctors, Nurses, Receptionists and administrator would welcome a GP to their supportive and caring Practice and know that any GP would enjoy their time there.
