Kerikeri Medical Centre is located in the town centre. It is situated in a purpose built building with approximately 10 consultation/nurse rooms. Upstairs in the same building there is a District Nurse, Orthopedic services, an Eye Specialist and an Audiologists. A Physiotherapist and Mental Health Services are also located nearby.
Usual standard equipment is available on site such as automatic ECG machine, Defibrillator and oxygen, full resuscitation gear, minor surgery services and more. X-ray services and pathology laboratory are available less then 500 metres away.
The practice has 9,500 patients with on average 25 patients seen each day per GP in 15-minute appointments. Surgery hours are 8.30am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday, Saturday mornings 9.00am to 12.30pm with after hours 5.30pm to 8.00am weekdays. Office hours are 8.30am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday. Weekday and weekend on-call rosters are both between 1:6 and 1:8. Seven practice nurses, three Receptionists and a Practice Manager, support the seven General Practitioners. The practice is fully computerised using the patient management system, Medtech.
The local hospital is Kawakawa (Bay of Islands) Hospital, 35kms from the practice. This is a 22-bed general hospital incorporating obstetrics and pediatrics. It is reportedly the largest rural hospital in New Zealand, excluding those that provide secondary surgical services.
The closest base hospital is at Whangarei, approximately an hour and 15 minutes drive away. This 225-bed hospital provides a full range of secondary services as well as being the base for extensive community based services. An ambulance takes about 20 minutes to arrive at the practice and is staffed by one member of St John, who is supported by volunteers.
Kerikeri Medical Centre is looking for a General Practitioner to join the friendly team, and will negotiate all terms of the appointment, from the type of engagement and income, to assistance with relocation, accommodation, vehicle and registration.
