Dr Gates Surgery is located in the centre of Huntly town. The practice is situated in a purpose built; two-doctor surgery, built in the1950’s. There are two consulting rooms and two nursing rooms on the premises. The Surgery is well-equipped, having minor surgery services available on site, all GP equipment and ECG. X-ray services are available in Hamilton and laboratory services are available on the main street in Huntly. The General Practitioner makes geriatric home visits once a week.

The practice currently employs one General Practitioner, two nurses and two part-time receptionists. Practice hours are 8.00am to 1.00pm and 2.00pm to 5.00pm (office hours are 8.00 am to 5.00pm), weekdays, except Wednesdays where the practice is open only from 9.00am to 1.00pm. The practice has approximately 2,000 patients, seeing on average 30 to 40 patients attending 15 minute appointments each day. On call (both weekday and weekend) is 1:6. The practice is affiliated to the Pinnacle Primary Health Organisation (PHO), receiving capitated patient subsidies for non-accident care, and is computerised; using the Medtech computerised patient management system.

The closest local and base hospital, Waikato Hospital, a tertiary teaching hospital, is just 35 kilometers away, taking roughly half an hour to reach from the practice. This is one of New Zealand’s largest hospitals and is also the largest Base Hospital in the Southern Hemisphere, with 650 beds and a diverse range of services. Affiliated to the University of Auckland’s Medical and Health Sciences, it offers 50 medical placements, as well as training in pharmacy, health management and post-graduate studies. Ambulance services are available to the practice; this takes roughly ten minutes to reach the practice.

Dr Gates Surgery is seeking a General Practitioner to join their practice on a long-term basis as soon as possible. Terms of engagement are 4 to 6/10ths. As a locum, remuneration would be paid per session and relocation assistance is negotiable.
