Pioneers in 1862 established Helensville as a Kauri milling town, and as such there are large numbers of beautiful historic Kauri cottages and villas. The Pioneer Museum provides a charming insight into the town’s historical past. Industries in Helensville now include dairy farming and tourism.
Named by North and South magazine as one of New Zealand's 'Top Ten Small Towns', Helensville is well resourced with many sports and cultural clubs available, shopping facilities and other amenities. It also has a raft of recreational activities, such as harbour cruising, natural thermal springs at nearby Parakai, fishing, golf, horse riding, restaurants, nearby vineyards, beaches, plus a range of adventure tourism activities.
Helensville has both primary and secondary schools available, where tertiary education is available through the University of Auckland, which incorporates a medical school, and polytechnics throughout the Auckland and Northland regions.
