Dargaville Medical Centre, which is owned by the Dargaville Medical Centre Partnership (8 GP's), is based in Dargaville Hospital, a 12-bed general (with 2 palliative care beds) and 4-bed maternity hospital. On-site support includes laboratory, physiotherapy and occupational therapy. Radiology services are available weekdays and visiting consultants from Whangarei provide a range of specialists out patient clinics. Kaipara Care Incorporated, also based at Dargaville Hospital, ensures collaboration and co-ordination in the delivery of Primary Health Care services.
Dargaville Medical Centre has 12,000 patients and provides 24-hour medical care for the area, as well as holding the contract to look after the 12 bed inpatient unit. External services are provided to two local rest homes and regular clinics are also held at local marae, or meeting houses. Surgery hours are 8am - 5pm. There are eight General Practitioners, supported by two full time equivalent locums, and each sees on average 24-28 patients a day. Weekday on call is 1 in 5, with 1 in 4 for weekend on call, with a 2nd on call GP available at all times. The practice team also includes a practice manager, 11 practice nurses, and 10 receptionists. The practice is fully computerised, using MedTech-32.
The closest base hospital is at Whangarei, approximately 45 minutes drive away. This 225-bed hospital underwent a $13 million redevelopment in 2002.
The practice is affiliated to the Kaipara Primary Health Organisation (PHO), receiving patient subsidies available for PHO-affiliates.
The Dargaville Medical Centre is looking for two General Practitioner's- one long term locum and the other to join as an associate or long-term locum. The practice holds a Primary Response in Medical Emergency (PRIME) contract and the position would be best suited to someone with experience in emergency medicine.
With a good salary offered. The practice will assist with the paperwork required for registration and work visa requirements. Travel costs associated with relocation can be met, accommodation sourced and a vehicle provided for short-term use. Supervisors are available in the practice.
Dargaville Medical Centre is a RNZCGP 'Cornerstone' accredited practice and also actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate training with regular attachments of medical students, trainee interns and GP registrars.
