Coromandel Family Health Centre is located in the town centre, in a renovated house, which is leased and shared with various social services and visiting health professionals, including district nurses. The practice’s two General Practitioners are a husband and wife team, which comprises one full time equivalent position (FTE). The practice is one of two in the town, which work co-operatively in terms of patient-base and medical equipment/resources.
The FTE General Practitioner is supported by three Practice Nurses, a Practice Manager and Receptionist. The computerised patient management system used is Medtech 32 and the practice is affiliated to the Pinnacle Primary Health Organisation (PHO), receiving capitated patient subsidies for non-accident care.
The practice has 3000 patients in a 60 kilometre radius, with on average 20 patients attending 15 or 20 minute appointments each day. Surgery hours are 9.00 am to 4.30 pm (office hours are 9.00 am to 5.00 pm), with weekday and weekend on call 1:1.
The local hospital is Phoenix House, a General Practitioner-staffed rest home and hospital with GP beds only. Thames Hospital, 55 kilometres from the practice, provides inpatient and outpatient services, including 24 hour emergency services. The closest base hospital is at Waikato, approximately two hours’ drive away. This is one of New Zealand’s largest hospitals, with 650 beds and a diverse range of services. Waikato Hospital is also a tertiary teaching hospital. The local ambulance service at Coromandel is volunteer, taking around five minutes to reach the practice.
Coromandel Family Health Centre has a full-time vacancy for an experienced General Practitioner. A generous package is offered, all aspects of which are negotiable - even on call – accommodation and vehicle will also be provided.
The practice holds a Primary Response in Medical Emergency (PRIME) contract and the position would be best suited to someone with experience in emergency medicine. PRIME training can be arranged.
