"I felt that I must write to thank you and your colleagues for all the excellent support I have received over the last few years and especially just recently, when I gave you a daunting task of finding a Locum for us from June 06 until the end of October 06.

As you are aware, we depend on Locums to keep our doors open and, once again, you all worked so hard to achieve the impossible! I am now, thanks to you, fully covered for the dates required.

We really appreciate all you have done and I sincerely thank you and your colleagues for everything. I am certain we would not have survived the very testing times here without your support and assistance. Long may it continue!"

About NZLocums

NZLocums is non-profit, the only recruitment scheme of its kind funded by the Government to ensure rural New Zealanders have access to quality health care.

NZLocums was established initially in 2001, following the awarding of a Ministry of Health contract to provide locum recruitment assistance to rural General Practitioners. In July 2003, NZLocums was awarded a further Ministry of Health contract enabling it to extend its services to include permanent placements and Nurse Practitioner recruitment.

The aims of NZLocums are to:

  • recruit enough locums to provide eligible rural General Practitioners throughout New Zealand with a minimum of two weeks cover per annum
  • source long term and permanent General Practitioner and Nurse Practitioner candidates for rural primary health care practices.

To achieve its aims, NZLocums has experienced health recruitment staff dedicated to looking after the specific requirements of General Practitioners and Nurse Practitioners, whether seeking work in rural New Zealand or having positions that need to be filled.

It is managed by the New Zealand Rural General Practice Network Inc, the nationwide incorporation dedicated to representing the specific interests of rural health. Based in Wellington, close to the Ministry of Health and other health agencies, the Government, The New Zealand Medical Association and the New Zealand Royal College of General Practitioners, NZLocums has a good understanding of the issues facing rural primary health care. Because of this, NZLocums can offer a unique degree of support and assistance in its recruitment activities.
